We can estimate the electrical demand of your home

Estimating the electrical demand of your (prospective) home.

For any potential home purchase or even in the case of your own home, it is useful to know if the Service Size is adequate. The Service Size is a measure of the maximum amperage that is permitted to flow into your home. Not all houses are set up for the same Service Size and having an adequate capacity will alleviate many unwanted outages.

Most homes now have a 120/240 Volt Service from the power utility. That means 120 volts for usual lights, outlets and small appliances, and 240 volts for stoves, electric dryers and a select few others. The 120/240 configuration is a standard for all new residential construction. However, the Amperes, the unit of current or flow of electricity, is set by the incoming wires. It is generally established for the size of house using assumptions for the typical usage of electrical appliances, conveniences and entertainment systems.

By evaluating your particular use of electricity we may find that your Service Size is more than adequate, borderline or under-powered. If you plan to install a hot tub, swimming pool, sauna or other high demand consumers, you may want to know ahead of time what your home’s service size is. The service size involves the 120/240 Volt aspect as well as the maximum Amperage.
